In a real world there is no perfect environment, perfect life, perfect parents etc. This life is the only life one can be sure of. This is why you cannot afford to lose this battle--be it addictions to drugs and alcohol, depression.

It is true that some pain and suffering is inevitable and part of the human journey. You suffer in all things--relationships, career, studying, poverty and whatever comes your way. History is filled with rare individuals who inspire us all and display how much potential the human specie has. But it takes hard work, determination and t
he right attitude to make it to the top.

1. Roman Abramovich
Net worth: $ 9 billion

Abramovich was born in Russia, into poverty. He was orphaned at 2 and raised by an uncle. He studied at the Moscow Auto Transport Institute. In 1987, he eventually started a small company manufacturing plastic toys. He later ventured into oil business and made a billion dollar fortune.

Today he owes Chelsea, the English football club and expensive toys including yachts, artworks and jets.

2. Oprah Winfrey
Net worth: $3 billion

Oprah began her life in absolute poverty, but it didn't stop her thirst for success. After winning a scholarship to Tennessee State University she was discovered by a radio station. In 1983, she started a small talk show that would be known as the Oprah Winfrey Show.

A philanthropist, she has donated millions of dollars to charity.

3. Jack Ma
Net worth: $22 billion

Alibaba founder and chairman is a true rags to riches story. He grew up poor in China. Ma struggled to get a job at KFC, failed his college entrance exam and faced rejection. But he remained determined and focused.  Instead of complaining,  he decided to improve his life. He learned English and began giving free tours to English speaking foreigners.

He later travelled to America and founded the Alibaba Group which raised over $25 billion in an IPO on NYSE.

4. Patrice Motsepe
Net worth: $2.4 billion

Motsepe was born in Soweto, in poverty. He had a very rough childhood. But a poor background didn't stop him in reaching his dreams. He studied hard and got a Law degree at University of Witswatersrand (WITS). In 1994, he turned to mining. As the chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, he turned loss-making shafts into a profitable business through cutting costs and cheap labour.
Today Motsepe is among the wealthiest people in the world.

Chris Garner
Net worth: $60 million

Gardner struggled with poverty and homelessness while raising his son, Christopher, Jr. He first worked in the Navy and later became a medical equipment salesman.  Times were tough but he persisted.

After moving to San Francisco, he met a man in a red Ferrari.  The man was a stockbroker. The encounter changed his life.  In 1987, he founded the Gardner Rich & Co and went on to become a multi-millionaire.

6. Larry Ellison
Net worth: $49 billion

Larry Ellison was born in New York City, to a Jewish mother. Ellison dropped out of college after his mother had just died. After working odd jobs, however, in 1977, he founded the company Oracle. The rest is history--in other words, he became a self-made billionaire. He is reportedly owns hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate,  luxury yachts and cars.

In conclusion, some people have managed to turned their lives around for the better. A poor background didn't stop them, lack of education didn't stop them and lack of money didn't stop them. So what is your excuse?
