Hypocritical Whites, Black Middle class and Coloureds

 By Sicebise Msengana

That video is making a point about double standards in how protests are judged.

Top half is footage from France - looks like the big pro-Palestine / pension reform protests around the Eiffel Tower with smoke, fireworks, crowd.

Bottom half, the guy is calling out different groups in South Africa:

His argument is basically:

> When Black South Africans protest, toyi-toyi, burn tires, shut down streets - the comments come fast: "they're lazy, uncivilised, they don't want to work, they just want free things, 30% pass rate, they always want to burn things."

> But when the French do the exact same thing - looting shops, burning cars, clashing with police - those same commenters go quiet. Then it's suddenly called a "revolution" and not "barbaric."

He goes through the list - white South Africans, Indian South Africans, coloured South Africans, black middle class / educated / bourgeoisie - asking "where's all that energy now? Where's the economic analysis about plundering the economy?"

And he lands on: "Is it only barbaric when we do it? When the French do it, it's fine. I'm not fighting, I'm just checking."

It's a satirical call-out. He's mimicking the stereotypes people use in comment sections to show the hypocrisy.

Here is the full transcript of the video:

My fellow white South Africans, your silence is deafening. You can't be this quiet."

"Especially when South Africans take to the streets and they protest. You guys are always the first to go on the comments:"

"Oh they just always just wanna burn things, all they know is - they never wanna work. You give them a job and they don't wanna work, they're very much uncivilised."

"Where's that energy now when the French are doing it?"

"Absolutely quiet. 'They don't want to work. You give them a job, they rock up late. That's why we don't hire them anymore."'

"My fellow Indian South Africans, you guys can't be this quiet when the French are doing it. Looting shops, burning cars. You guys are quiet, nothing to say now. No comments."

"On our 30% pass rate. 'We got brains, we got brains, we don't go around burning. We know how to just protest. All they know is stealing, stealing and breaking things. That's all they know. 30% pass rate, what you expect? Obviously you're gonna go around stealing and taking things for free."'

"Where's those comments now guys? You guys are quiet when the French are doing it."

"Where's the, where's the noise now in the comments? It's only the, it's only doing it, where's the noise now?"[them]

"I'm telling you exe, I'm telling you my bru, these owes here all they know bru, they just wanna take things all the time."

"Where's those comments? Or is it just barbaric and uncivilised when we do it? Basically."

"I'm not fighting, I'm just checking that it's okay when the French do it, but when we do it, it's barbaric, it's uncivilised."

"Where are my, my coloured brothers and sisters? Your silence is deafening."

"Where's your economic projections bru? Your, your stats and your research and your analysis? Where you have a whole thesis and how we are plundering the economy, huh?"

"Where's all the, where's all the chats guys? Where's all the noise?

"It's fine. The, the black middle class, my bourgeoisie, my petite bourgeoisie, the proletariat, where are you guys?

"We see you."
